The English Country Blues Band : Don't Take Love
Released on 11th March 1983 as the first single on newly formed Rogue Records, ahead of the English Country Blues Band's second LP "Home & Deranged". The line-up of the ECBB on this track were Maggie Holland (vocal, guitar, bass guitar), Ian A Anderson (slide guitar), Rod Stradling (melodeon), Sue Harris (hammered dulcimer) and John Maxwell (drums).
The label's press release at the time reckoned that it was the first Surrey/Wiltshire border version of a Tex-Mex ballad from Weston-super-Mare to be performed by a bunch of people with backgrounds variously in blues, folk-rock, country and English dance bands. (Among them they'd been in Hot Vultures, The Albion Band, The Old Swan Band and Ric...

Great post of a great early song of his. Al has always stayed true to his music. No heavy guitar power chords in the late 60's, no disco in the 70's, no synth pop in the 80's, no grunge in the 90's, no rap in the 2000's. His acoustic guitar work , his lyrics and his songs, and that nasally ever British voice never straining, just holding a melody together and telling masterful stories about historical persons and situations, romance, heartbreak, and childhood experiences. His music never gets old. There is always something new during each listen.
